Chakra Healing with Art- Welcome to My 7 Week Series!

I’m very excited to announce my new series: Chakra Healing with Art! This interactive series is going to be a 7 weeks long and will focus on a different chakra/ color each week. What does that mean? Let me explain:

Our body has 7 chakras. Each chakra is a different color. So each week I will be focusing on one chakra and the color that makes it. I will be posting a blog post about that one chakra with tips on how to heal/ open your chakra, I will be posting a video of me making a painting in that color on my Youtube channel and I will be adding prints to my Etsy shop that week in that color only. I will also be doing “Paint with Me” videos where you can join in and paint yourself! Also on my Art Only Instagram Account I will be sharing not only my paintings in the color we are focusing on that week that are for sale but will also be sharing tips and tricks you can use to heal/ open the chakra we are focusing on that week. I would love for you to join me on this healing art journey!

Several ancient cultures, including Chinese and Egyptians practiced chromotherapy ( the use of colors to heal.) Chromotherapy is still used today as a holistic or alternative treatment.

In this treatment:

  • Red was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation.
  • Yellow was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body.
  • Orange was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels.
  • Blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain.
  • Indigo shades were thought to alleviate skin problems.

Colors can affect how we feel subconsciously. This means that one may not even know they are being affected by the color of an environment or artwork. Each color is very similar to the chakra color that it relates to. This is why color therapy and chakra healing go hand in hand in my opinion. Please see each color and its attached chakra explained below:

#1 Red Color Meaning: The color of passion and drama. This color attracts the most attention and is associated with strong emotions such as love and anger. Red is the color used universally to signify danger, courage, strength, and power. Red is stimulating, bold, vibrant and exciting. Also a bit mysterious is you ask me.

#1 Root Chakra: Located at the base or root, this chakra is red and represents grounding, and survival needs like shelter and security. Do you travel a lot? Do you have a stable sense of home? If you seem to be on the move a lot and lack a sense of home this chakra may need some work.

#2 Orange Color Meaning: The color of encouragement. The combination of yellow and red makes orange convey excitement, warmth and enthusiasm. The social butterfly. Inviting, open-minded and energized. If you feel like you need some motivation or maybe an emotional makeover orange may be the color you need to focus on. Orange stimulated the appetite for life and is associated with a healthy lifestyle.

#2 Sacral Chakra: Located by the sacrum, a large piece of bone at the base of the spine, but above the coccyx. This chakra represents pleasure, emotional balance and sexuality. Orange is the color of success and relates to self-respect; having the ability to give ourselves the freedom to be ourselves and helps you expand your interests and activities. This color is said to bring joy to our workday and strengthens our appetite for life! Orange is the best emotional stimulant. It connects us to our senses and helps to remove inhibitions and makes us independent but also social at the same time.

#3 Yellow Color Meaning – The color of optimism. Yellow is a compelling color that conveys youthful, fresh energy. This color of sunshine is uplifting and illuminating and associated with success and confidence. Yellow stimulates the left side of the brain, helping with clear thinking and quick decision making. Yellow grabs attention because the eye sees yellow first.

#3 Navel Chakra: Located by the belly button, this chakra represents our willpower and assertion, it is yellow in color and associated with the pancreas, liver and stomach.

#4 Green Color Meaning: The color of growth and health. Think of nature and see green in all its glory expressing renewal and life. Green has a strong association as a refreshing and peaceful color. It evokes feeling of abundance and a plentiful environment while providing a restful and secure feeling.

#4 Heart Chakra: Located centrally near the heart, this chakra represents of course, love, unconditional love, acceptance, compassion and intuitiveness. The color is green and the associated organs are the heart, the circulatory system, the arms and hands. This one makes me laugh because I feel the most loved in nature. They really go hand in hand.

#5. Turquoise Color Meaning: Turquoise means open communication and clear thoughts. The color turquoise helps to open the communication between your heart and your spoken word. This color represents happiness and enjoying life. This color also can help to control and heal emotions creating emotional balance and stability.

#5 Throat Chakra: Located at the throat this chakra is all about communication, creativity, truth and reliability. The color is  turquoise blue and the organs associated are the thyroid, hypothalamus, throat and mouth. The process of opening and healing this chakra can be a bit bumpy so prepare for a bit of an emotional roller-coaster until it’s fully balanced.

#6 Indigo Color Meaning– Indigo is created out of a combination of blue and violet/purple and falls somewhere into the middle of those colors.Indigo shares many of its meanings with violet. It’s associated with mystical powers, intuition and higher levels of perception and different levels of consciousness. Indigo is also linked to sincerity and having integrity, also knowledge, wisdom, fairness, conformity and traditional.

#6 Third Eye Chakra: Located in the center of the brain, at a cross section found between the eyes and just above the ears. This chakra represents wisdom, imagination, intuition and an ability to analyse and perceive truth in the world. The color is a deep purple and the associated organs are the pituitary gland, the nose, the ears and the pineal gland. You may have heard people say before ” Open Your Third Eyes” This means you are opening a new eye to see the spiritual world. Once you do this you see the world differently- in a good way.

#7 Violet Color Meaning – The color of spirituality. The energy of red with the calm of blue combine to create violet, a color that inspires reflection and self awareness. It is the color of the sensitive, compassionate intuitive soul – the introvert. Also, violet has long been associated with royalty, and characteristics of quality and luxury.

#7 Crown Chakra: The only chakra to be found outside of the physical body, this is located just above the crown of the head in what is considered our “spiritual body”. There are less words about this chakra as it is the chakra associated with higher consciousness. It is associated with vitalizing the upper brain, and the color is a light purple or indigo, or white.

Wow, how crazy is that? I’ve done a lot of research on the psychological meaning of each color and also each chakra and they are 100% connected. Many people say to listen to hypnosis music, go to yoga, meditate and eat healthy to open and heal your chakras. I believe all of this is great advice and practice all of these things on my own as well but I think the key is to get in touch with each color with art/ color therapy.

A few ways you can do this is my having art in your home in each color, painting yourself, wearing different colors or by having crystals in these colors in your home. In this series I’m going to be posting blogs and videos of me making paintings in each color and would love for you to follow along. Each week I will dive in deeper into the meaning of each color and its corresponding chakra. I also may do some painting tutorials that will be easier therapeutic style paintings and would love for you to paint along!

If you don’t have canvas or paints don’t feel the need to go spend a lot of money on them. You can find super affordable paints at most dollar stores or Walmart. You also can even paint on paper if you’d like. This series is really about emotional healing so don’t get caught up in the details. 🙂

Keep an eye out for first blog and video that will be about the root chakra which is red soon! I also would love to hear your thoughts below! Please let me know if you will be joining in on this series and what you think. This will be fun!
