Taking Time For Yourself

Ever find yourself working too much? Ever find yourself putting your loved ones before you? Maybe putting all of your energy into your children, husband, boyfriend, work of friends? We all do it, and hey.. it’s a good thing to be selfless but sometimes we need to press pause and treat ourselves. It doesn’t have to be extravagant by any means and it will vary from person to person but it’s so important to make sure you are taking time for yourself to fully connect with your peace and happiness.

What does this mean for me? I like to press pause and make a nice large bubble bath with my favorite lavender harvest bubble bath. I love to put some lavender oil in my bath and some bath bombs that smell delicious and make my skin feel super soft. While I’m in the bath I love to sip on some sparkling water with fresh fruit, a cup of tea or a glass of my favorite wine.

When I get out of the bath I love to be cozy so I dry off and put on a cozy robe while I do a face mask. I’m currently loving The “drink up” overnight mask from Orgins. It’s an intense moisture replacement mask with avocado and apricot kernel oil and leaves your face feeling so smooth and moisturized.

I then love to take time to paint. I haven’t done this in way too long which is honestly why I’m writing this blog post. I realized the past few days I need to make sure and make time to do these small things that make me happy. If you like to paint, or never have.. I would highly encourage you to try it. Here are a few of my paintings I have made so far.. not all made it to this website but maybe I will share more with you guys on this blog soon if you would like. Anyway, I get my painting supplies at Hobby Lobby or Michaels usually. I always look for discounts, of course.

I took this photo in La Jolla. The ocean is so peaceful to me.

Another thing I like to do for myself is get out into nature and take a hike. There are so many hiking trails around me so I’m lucky. If you don’t have much nature around you what about trying out a new workout class like yoga or spin? Or what about the ocean? I’m a mermaid at heart so if I  lived by the ocean I would be their daily.

I also recently got back into reading. When I was little I honestly hated to read. I think I was just to energetic to sit long enough to read an entire book. There have been a few books that have grasped my attention though and I started reading another Emily Giffin book recently and it’s so nice to just lay by the pool or in my cozy bed and escape with a book. My other favorite authors are Cheryl Shireman and Nicholas Sparks.

The last thing I love to do for myself is cook. Another thing I use to hate when I was younger but now adore. Cooking is very therapeutic to me. I look at it as art. You can take many different ingredients and try to throw them together and see what the outcome will be. Just like different colors on a canvas. Even if you are a horrible cook, like Gusto from Ratatouille says, “Anyone can cook!” Give it a try, you never know what will happen.

This is a dinner I made for my boyfriend, Richard and I. Pesto and Mozzarella stuffed chicken, roasted potatoes and asparagus.

What do you like to do for yourself? If you’re reading this and thinking to yourself.. “Wow, I need to do something for myself too.. then drop everything you’re doing right now.. if possible and do it. Or even set a few hours this upcoming weekend or week for you time. Enjoy and talk to you guys soon.

XO,

Scarlett

Everyone needs to take time out to relax into themselves. I love LaJolla. We live in the Bay area and LaJolla is our favorite winter getaway.

If you take time for yourself, you will be renewed and able to continue helping everyone around you

I was just thinking to myself that I hadn’t set aside to paint recently. With two jobs it can be hard! Thanks for that nudge.

I couldn’t agree more! It’s always important to set time to take care of ourselves. And I definitely need to drive down to la Jolla because it’s just beautiful.

What an excellent post, I definitely think there’s a lot to be said about taking time for yourself! It’s just so important to do something you like and get away from the laptops, etc. xx Adaleta Avdic
