Weekend Getaway at The Houstonian

Last weekend Layne and I headed to Houston for a weekend getaway. We stayed at the historic Houstonian Hotel and it was nothing less than fabulous. Known as the “Ultimate Urban Oasis” this hotel truly was a magical getaway with nature galore, ( it sits on 18 acres!)  first class service, a world renown fitness center, amazing dining and a truly warm and kind service from the hotel staff.

We started our stay with a delicious meet and cheese plate in our room and then headed down to the lobby where thankfully the AC was cranked ( because its 100 degrees in Texas!) They had a huge cozy fire going in the lounge where we ordered some delicious shrimp cocktail and some white wine.

We then headed to dinner at the Manor House which was just a few steps outside of the lobby. Such a timless restaurant which shows you what true Southern Hospitality looks and feels like. The view is gorgeous with lush trees and greenery everywhere you look. The Manor house is a historic home built in 1955 by renowned architect John Staub and our server also told us it use to be home to George Bush. Okay, besides the history and amazing service the food was excellent! We started with the shrimp gumbo and steak steak tartare and we both enjoyed the filet for our main course. Everything was so delicious. They also give you an Ipad to search their wine on! They have so many wines and I love how the Ipad let you read in depth about each one.

After dinner we had a cocktail and dessert in the hotel lounge and then went for a late night swim. This hotel has 3 pools, 4 outdoor tennis courts and an amazing spa.

Once it was time to check out we headed todowntown Houston and I wanted to go back to the Houstonian right away. It truly is a one of a kind luxurious nature filled getaway in the heart of the city. Take me back!
